Building Hope Beyond the Jobsite: Supporting the Future of St. Luke’s Clinic on Staniel Cay

admin News & Articles

At Paterson Project Management, we believe our responsibility extends beyond the homes and communities we build. While construction is at the heart of what we do, some of the most meaningful projects are those that create an impact far beyond the jobsite.

One initiative especially close to our hearts is the redevelopment of St. Luke’s Clinic on Staniel Cay in the Exuma Cays, Bahamas. Paterson Project Management and Lighthouse Point Yacht Club are proud supporting partners in an effort to revitalize and expand the island’s only medical clinic.

Together with members, donors, volunteers, businesses, and community partners, the initiative has raised nearly $1.5 million toward creating a modern medical facility that can better serve the people who live, work, and visit Staniel Cay.

A Lifeline for the Staniel Cay Community

Staniel Cay is one of the most visited islands in the Exuma Cays, welcoming residents, boaters, tourists, homeowners, and visitors from around the world. Despite its popularity, access to medical care on a remote island presents challenges that are very different from those experienced in larger communities.

For years, the island has depended on a small medical clinic that has become increasingly unable to accommodate the community’s growing healthcare needs.

The vision for St. Luke’s Clinic is to change that by expanding and modernizing the existing facility. The project is intended to create a fully equipped medical clinic capable of providing improved care to residents and visitors, including during medical emergencies when timely access to treatment can be especially important.

The redevelopment also includes housing for healthcare professionals, helping support the people who will provide essential medical services on the island.

A Longstanding Connection Between Lighthouse Point and Staniel Cay

The relationship between Lighthouse Point Yacht Club and Staniel Cay did not begin with this project. It has developed over decades.

For many years, Yacht Club members have made annual boating trips to Staniel Cay and the surrounding Exumas. Those visits have created lasting friendships and meaningful connections between members and the island community. Some members have even relied on the existing clinic’s services while visiting the area.

Over time, conversations about the clinic and the growing need for improved medical facilities began turning into something larger.

Lighthouse Point Yacht Club ultimately hosted the first fundraising event supporting the clinic redevelopment. That event raised more than $200,000, providing important early momentum for an initiative that has continued to grow.

The Club remains one of the project’s earliest and strongest supporters, demonstrating how relationships formed through a shared love of boating and the islands can evolve into opportunities to make a lasting difference.

Turning Commitment Into Action

Terry Paterson’s connection to both Paterson Project Management and Lighthouse Point Yacht Club has helped bring these two communities together in support of the clinic’s future.

As the owner of Lighthouse Point Yacht Club and founder of Paterson Project Management, he has remained committed to supporting the St. Luke’s Clinic mission from its earliest stages.

Construction is ultimately about improving the places where people live. Healthcare is about protecting the people who live there.

Supporting the redevelopment of St. Luke’s Clinic reflects many of the same values that guide our work every day: investing in communities, developing meaningful partnerships, solving complex challenges, and creating projects designed to have a lasting impact.

Nearly $1.5 Million Raised Toward the Vision

What began with an ambitious idea has grown into an extraordinary community effort.

Through the generosity of donors, volunteers, businesses, Yacht Club members, and community partners, fundraising for the clinic redevelopment has approached $1.5 million.

Every contribution brings the project closer to its goal of providing Staniel Cay with a modernized medical facility capable of serving residents, employees, homeowners, boaters, and visitors for generations to come.

The progress also demonstrates what can happen when people and organizations come together around a shared purpose. A project of this scale requires more than funding. It depends on relationships, collaboration, persistence, and a community willing to invest in its future.

Building More Than Structures

At Paterson Project Management, we are known for building luxury custom homes and transformative developments throughout South Florida. But construction, at its best, is ultimately about people.

A building becomes meaningful because of what happens inside it and the people it serves.

That idea takes on even greater significance with St. Luke’s Clinic. The completed facility will not simply represent a construction project. It will provide a place where someone can receive care during an emergency, where healthcare professionals can serve the community, and where residents and visitors can have greater confidence that medical assistance is available when they need it.

The impact of a project like this can extend far beyond its walls.

A Community Effort With a Lasting Impact

Paterson Project Management is proud to stand alongside the St. Luke’s Clinic Foundation, Lighthouse Point Yacht Club, the Staniel Cay community, the Bahamas Ministry of Health, and the many generous donors and supporters helping move this important project forward.

Together, these organizations and individuals are helping create more than a modern medical facility. They are investing in the health, safety, and future of an island community that has welcomed generations of residents and visitors.

As the project continues to move forward, we are grateful to everyone who has contributed their time, resources, expertise, and support.
